Dr. Leavitt grew up in Kuna, Idaho, a small farming community near Boise. As the second of nine children, he learned discipline, responsibility, and perseverance while helping his family manage their 80-acre farm.
With a father who served as a high school counselor and a mother who worked as an elementary school teacher, education and service were foundational values in his home. These early influences shaped his dedication to academic excellence and inspired his path toward a healthcare career focused on improving lives through orthodontics.
Advanced Education & Specialized Orthodontic Training
Dr. Leavitt earned an academic scholarship to Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology.
He then attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry, one of the nation’s leading dental institutions, where he:
- Graduated with honors
- Earned his Doctor of Dental Science (DDS) degree
Committed to becoming a specialist, Dr. Leavitt continued his training at the University of Washington to complete an advanced orthodontic residency program. This intensive specialty training included:
- Orofacial biology
- Craniofacial growth and development
- Embryology and anatomy
- Diagnosis and treatment of craniofacial anomalies
- Comprehensive orthodontic theory and clinical practice
In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Leavitt completed a master’s research thesis and earned a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) along with his Certificate in Orthodontics.

Dr. Leavitt lives in Tacoma with his wife, Mari, and their children. When he’s not creating smiles, you’ll often find him enjoying the outdoors with his family, camping, hiking, biking, skiing, or simply relaxing together at home.
His commitment to family and community extends into his practice, where he strives to provide the same level of care and attention he would want for his own children.
